Back in the early days of the internet, memes were few and far between. But as the world became more connected and social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook emerged, memes began to take on a life of their own. One of the most popular memes of the early 2020s was the System Overload meme, which depicted a person or computer struggling to keep up with the demands of modern life.
What is the System Overload Meme?
The System Overload meme typically features a picture or video of a person or computer with an overloaded look on their face. The image is often accompanied by text that jokes about how overwhelmed the person or computer is by the demands of everyday life. For example, one popular version of the meme shows a person with a blank stare and the text “When you have 20 tabs open and your computer starts to lag.”
The meme became popular in 2020 and quickly spread across social media platforms. People loved the relatable humor of the meme, and it became a go-to for anyone feeling overwhelmed by the demands of modern life.
The Rise of the System Overload Meme
The System Overload meme became so popular that it even spawned its own sub-genres. For example, there was the “Brain Overload” meme, which featured a similar image but with a focus on mental exhaustion rather than computer overload. Another popular version of the meme was the “Friend Request Overload” meme, which depicted a person with a blank stare and the text “When you get 100 friend requests in one day.”
As the meme continued to gain popularity, it began to be used in more and more creative ways. People started using it to make jokes about everything from schoolwork to relationships. Some even used the meme to make political statements.
The Legacy of the System Overload Meme
While the System Overload meme may have peaked in popularity in the early 2020s, its legacy lives on. The meme is still used today, albeit less frequently, and it continues to bring a smile to people’s faces. Some even credit the meme with helping to usher in a new era of internet humor, one that is more relatable and down-to-earth than the memes of the past.
