It seems like every year, there’s a new NFL team that dominates the internet with hilarious memes. In 2023, that team is none other than the New Orleans Saints. From their star quarterback to their infamous fan base, the Saints have become a goldmine of meme material.

The Drew Brees Effect

One of the main reasons for the surge in Saints memes is their quarterback, Drew Brees. Brees has been a staple of the team for over a decade, but in recent years, he’s become somewhat of a meme himself. From his infamous pregame chants to his postgame speeches, Brees has given meme-makers plenty of material to work with.

“As a Saints fan, I love seeing all the Drew Brees memes,” says Sarah Johnson, a New Orleans native. “It’s like he’s become this larger-than-life figure, and people can’t help but poke fun at him in a playful way.”

The Who Dat Nation

Another reason for the rise of Saints memes is their passionate fan base, known as the Who Dat Nation. The Who Dat Nation is notorious for their love of the team, and their willingness to defend them against all odds.

“I’ve been a Saints fan my whole life, and I’ve never seen anything like the Who Dat Nation,” says Michael Smith, a fan from Baton Rouge. “We’re so passionate about our team, and that passion spills over into the memes we create. It’s like we’re all in on the joke together.”

The Rise of Social Media

Of course, it’s not just the Saints themselves that are responsible for the surge in memes. The rise of social media has made it easier than ever for fans to create and share memes about their favorite teams.

“Back in the day, you had to be a graphic design whiz to create a meme,” says Mark Davis, a meme enthusiast from Chicago. “Now, there are apps and websites that make it super easy. All you need is a funny idea and a few minutes of free time.”
