The Birth of Memes Contra Barcelona
The origins of memes contra Barcelona can be traced back to the club’s disappointing performance in the 2019-2020 season. Barcelona, who had won the La Liga title the previous year, finished second to arch-rivals Real Madrid. The club also suffered a humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. This defeat led to the sacking of head coach Quique Setién and the resignation of club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
The aftermath of this debacle saw a surge in online memes and banter directed towards Barcelona. These memes ranged from mocking the club’s transfer policy to ridiculing their star player Lionel Messi. The memes quickly spread across social media platforms, with fans of rival clubs joining in on the fun.

Despite this, some fans see the funny side of the memes and appreciate the online banter. “I think the memes are hilarious and a great way to show our support for our team,” says John, a Barcelona fan from the United States. “It’s all in good fun and I don’t take it too seriously.”
The Future of Memes Contra Barcelona
As we move into 2023, the future of memes contra Barcelona remains uncertain. The club has undergone significant changes, with a new president and head coach at the helm. There is hope that the club can turn their fortunes around and put an end to the constant stream of online mockery.
However, with the rise of social media and the ease with which memes can be created and shared, it is likely that memes contra Barcelona will continue to be a part of football banter for years to come.
