The decision was met with widespread criticism, as many people believed that it would hurt the livelihoods of the vendors and their families. The governor defended the law, stating that it was necessary to improve the city’s image and attract more tourists.
The controversy quickly spread on social media, with many people using the hashtag #NoAlGolpeAlComercioAmbulante (No to the Attack on Street Vendors) to voice their opposition. The hashtag became a trending topic on Twitter and Instagram, with people sharing photos and videos of street vendors and their products.
The Rise of the Gobernador de Guanajuato Memes
As the controversy continued, people started to get creative with their social media posts. They began creating memes featuring Governor Rodríguez Vallejo, often using his official portrait or photos from his public appearances. The memes were usually humorous and satirical, poking fun at the governor’s decision and his perceived lack of empathy for the street vendors.
One popular meme featured a photo of the governor with the caption “Cuando te dicen que no hay tacos de canasta” (When they tell you there are no basket tacos). The meme was a reference to the street vendors who sell tacos de canasta (basket tacos) and who would be affected by the new law. The meme quickly went viral, with people sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
