What Are Red Shirt Memes?
For those unfamiliar with the trend, red shirt memes are based on the trope in TV shows and movies where a character wearing a red shirt is likely to die. This is especially prevalent in Star Trek, where security personnel often wore red shirts and were frequently killed off. The idea behind the meme is that anyone wearing a red shirt is doomed to a terrible fate.
The first red shirt meme appeared on the internet in 2010, when a user on the website Reddit posted a photo of a man wearing a red shirt with the caption “never forget.” Since then, the meme has exploded in popularity, with countless variations appearing online.
