It’s been almost a decade since the legendary Argentina vs France match in the 2014 World Cup. But the memes, oh the memes, they’ve been going strong ever since. It’s now 2023, and the rivalry between the two teams is still alive and well, as evidenced by the endless supply of memes that continue to circulate on social media. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the best Argentina vs Francia memes, as well as explore the history and context behind the rivalry.

The History of Argentina vs France

The Argentina vs France rivalry has its roots in soccer history. The two teams first met in 1930, during the inaugural World Cup, with Argentina winning 1-0. Since then, the teams have faced each other a total of 12 times, with Argentina winning 6 and France winning 4 (with two draws). But it was the 2014 World Cup match that really ignited the rivalry, thanks to a stunning performance by France that knocked Argentina out of the tournament.

The Memes Begin

After the match, social media was flooded with memes poking fun at Argentina’s defeat. One of the most popular was a photoshopped image of Argentine star Lionel Messi crying next to a miniature Eiffel Tower, with the caption “I came to Paris to win the World Cup, but all I got was this lousy keychain.” The meme quickly went viral, with people sharing it on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

But it wasn’t just the defeat that inspired memes. The match itself was full of drama and controversy, with several controversial calls by the referee that left Argentine fans fuming. One of the most infamous moments was when Argentine player Marcos Rojo appeared to elbow a French player in the face, but was only given a yellow card. This led to a flood of memes accusing the referee of being biased towards France.

The Memes Continue

But the memes didn’t stop after the 2014 World Cup. In fact, they only continued to grow in popularity. One of the most enduring memes is the “Argentina crying kid” meme, which features a young Argentine boy crying hysterically after his team’s defeat. The image has been used to mock Argentina in a variety of contexts, from politics to pop culture.

Another popular meme is the “Argentina vs France World Cup simulator,” which allows users to simulate a match between the two teams and share the results on social media. The simulator has become a hit among soccer fans, who love to see how their favorite teams would fare against each other.

The Response from Fans

While some Argentine fans have taken offense to the memes, others have embraced them as a way of coping with the defeat. “I know we lost, but at least we can laugh about it now,” said one fan on Twitter. “The memes help us move on.”

French fans, on the other hand, have been more amused than offended by the memes. “We won fair and square, so we can afford to be gracious,” said one French fan. “Plus, some of the memes are pretty funny.”

The Future of the Rivalry

So what does the future hold for the Argentina vs France rivalry? Will it continue to inspire memes for years to come? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the passion and intensity of the rivalry is unlikely to die down anytime soon.

Conclusion

From the “I came to Paris to win the World Cup” meme to the “Argentina crying kid” meme, the Argentina vs France rivalry has inspired some of the funniest and most creative memes on the internet.
