Destiny 2 has been one of the most popular multiplayer games for years now, and one of the reasons for its success is the constant updates and new content that keep players engaged. One of the most beloved characters in the game is the Drifter, a rogue Guardian who runs his own Gambit game mode. But it’s not just his charismatic personality and unique gameplay that players love about him – it’s also the hilarious memes that have been created in his honor.
What are Drifter Memes?
If you’re not familiar with the term, a meme is a humorous image, video, or piece of text that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users. In the case of Destiny 2, Drifter memes are usually screenshots or fan art that feature the Drifter in various funny situations, often with captions or speech bubbles that reflect his quirky personality.
Some of the most popular Drifter memes include:
The “Trust” Meme
One of the most iconic lines the Drifter says during Gambit matches is “Trust me, I’m a liar.” This has spawned a meme where players create their own versions of the phrase, such as “Trust me, I’m a Warlock” or “Trust me, I’m a Titan.” These memes often feature the Drifter looking shifty or mischievous.
The “Invader” Meme
Another popular meme involves the Drifter’s reactions when an enemy Guardian invades during a Gambit match. The Drifter will often shout out warnings or encouragement to his team, and these phrases have become the basis for memes. For example, one meme shows the Drifter saying “They’re on your tail!” while riding a sparrow, with the caption “When you’re running from Invaders in Gambit.”
The “Dredgen” Meme
In Destiny 2 lore, the term “Dredgen” refers to Guardians who have embraced the darkness and joined a cult-like group known as the Shadows of Yor. The Drifter is a Dredgen himself, and he often uses the term as a nickname for his Gambit players. This has led to memes where players create their own Dredgen personas and create fan art of the Drifter as a cult leader.
Why are Drifter Memes so Popular?
So why have Drifter memes become such a phenomenon among Destiny 2 players? For one thing, the Drifter is a unique and charismatic character who brings a lot of personality to the game. His snarky comments and playful banter with players make him stand out from other NPCs in the game.
Additionally, creating and sharing memes is a fun way for players to connect with each other and express their love for the game. By making jokes and references that only other Destiny 2 players will understand, they feel like part of a community.
The Response from the Destiny 2 Community
Destiny 2 players have embraced Drifter memes with open arms, and many of them actively contribute to the meme culture surrounding the character. Reddit and Twitter are full of fan art, screenshots, and videos featuring the Drifter in all his glory.
Here are some of the responses from players:
“I love the Drifter and all the memes that come with him. It’s a fun way to laugh at ourselves and the game we love.”

“The Drifter memes are some of the funniest things I’ve seen on the internet. I can’t imagine playing Destiny 2 without him now.”

Drifter memes have become a staple of the Destiny 2 community, and it’s easy to see why. They’re hilarious, relatable, and a great way to bond with other players. Whether you’re a hardcore Gambit player or just a casual Destiny 2 fan, you can’t help but appreciate the wit and charm of the Drifter and the memes he inspires.
