What are Divergent Memes?
Divergent memes are a new type of meme that deviates from the usual format. Instead of using a static image with text overlaid, divergent memes use video footage or animated clips with text overlaid. This allows for more creative expression and a wider range of humor.
Examples of Divergent Memes
One popular example of a divergent meme is the “Ight, imma head out” meme. This meme features a clip of Spongebob Squarepants packing his bags and leaving a room. The text overlaid on the video usually includes a humorous take on leaving a situation, such as “When you realize it’s Monday tomorrow.” Another popular divergent meme is the “This is fine” meme. This meme features an animated dog sitting in a room while everything around him is on fire. The text overlaid on the video usually includes a humorous take on a stressful situation, such as “When you have 10 assignments due tomorrow but you’re too tired to care.”
Reactions to Divergent Memes
As with any new trend, divergent memes have been met with mixed reactions. Some people find them hilarious and a breath of fresh air in the meme world, while others find them confusing and not funny.
Positive Responses
Those who enjoy divergent memes appreciate the creativity and humor that comes with the format. They find that the use of video footage or animated clips adds an extra layer of humor and relatability to the meme. One Twitter user, @memelover23, says “I love divergent memes! They’re so funny and creative. I can’t wait to see what people come up with next.”
Negative Responses
Those who don’t enjoy divergent memes find them confusing and not funny. They feel that the format is too different from traditional memes and makes it hard to understand the humor. One Reddit user, u/grumpymeme, says “I don’t get divergent memes. They just seem like random video clips with text on them. It’s not funny to me.”
