As the college football championship season comes to a close, one thing that has become increasingly popular among fans are the memes that circulate on social media. From poking fun at teams who didn’t make it to the championship game to celebrating the winning team, these memes have become a staple in the world of college football. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most popular memes from the 2023 college football championship season.
Table of Contents
1. “We Want Bama”
This meme has been around for a few years now, but it never gets old. Fans of teams who aren’t in the SEC often chant “We Want Bama” as a way of challenging the powerhouse conference. This year, the meme took on a new life when a group of fans from a non-SEC school actually made it to the championship game and faced off against Alabama. The meme was everywhere leading up to the game, with fans of both teams using it to hype up the matchup.
“I love the ‘We Want Bama’ meme because it really shows the passion and competitiveness of college football fans,” says John, a longtime college football fan. “Even if your team has no chance of beating Alabama, you still want to take them on because that’s what college football is all about.”
2. “The Real National Championship”
This meme is often used by fans of teams who are left out of the College Football Playoff. They argue that the playoff system is flawed and that the “real” national championship should be decided by a traditional bowl game format. This year, the meme gained traction when a team that was left out of the playoff went on to win their bowl game in dominating fashion.
“I think the ‘Real National Championship’ meme is a way for fans to vent their frustration with the playoff system,” says Sarah, a college football analyst. “But at the end of the day, the playoff is here to stay and it’s up to teams to earn their way in.”
3. “The Undefeateds”
This meme is all about celebrating the teams that make it through the regular season without a loss. Fans of these teams often use the “undefeated” label to taunt opponents and proclaim their team’s superiority. This year, there were several teams that made it through the season with perfect records, leading to a surge in the popularity of this meme.
“I love the ‘Undefeateds’ meme because it really captures the excitement of a perfect season,” says Mike, a college football blogger. “It’s amazing to see a team go through the entire season without a loss, and this meme is a great way to celebrate that achievement.”
