The Origins of the Meme

In 2014, TMABird uploaded a video to YouTube featuring their remix of “Renai Circulation” along with an animated character dancing to the beat. The video quickly gained popularity among anime fans and sparked the creation of numerous dance covers featuring real people imitating the character’s movements.

As the meme gained traction on social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok, it became a staple of online communities and subcultures, with users creating their own versions of the dance and incorporating it into various contexts.

The Dance that Took the Internet by Storm

The dance has become a popular way for fans to express their love for anime and Japanese culture, and has even been incorporated into wedding ceremonies and other celebrations.

One of the reasons why the meme has remained so popular over the years is its adaptability. Fans have created their own variations of the dance, adding their own twists and flourishes to make it their own. The meme has also been used in various challenges, such as the “Renai Circulation Challenge” on TikTok where users try to recreate the dance in different outfits and settings.

Responses from Fans and Critics
