In the past few years, memes have become an integral part of internet culture. These humorous images and videos have taken over social media platforms and have become a language of their own. One of the most popular types of memes is the meme cartoon character. These characters are often used to depict various emotions, situations, and reactions. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at some of the most popular meme cartoon characters and their origins.

The Origins of Meme Cartoon Characters

The concept of using cartoon characters in memes is not a new one. In fact, the first known instance of a cartoon character being used in a meme dates back to 2010. The character in question was a comic strip character named Rage Guy, who was known for his iconic “FFFFUUUUU” expression. The popularity of Rage Guy led to the creation of many other meme cartoon characters, including Trollface, Y U NO Guy, and Forever Alone Guy.

These characters quickly became internet sensations, and their popularity only grew with the rise of social media. Today, there are countless meme cartoon characters that are used to convey various emotions and reactions. Some of the most popular ones include Pepe the Frog, Wojak, and Spongebob Squarepants.

Pepe the Frog

Pepe the Frog is one of the most well-known meme cartoon characters. The character was created by artist Matt Furie in 2005 and was originally featured in a comic strip called “Boy’s Club.” However, it wasn’t until 2015 that Pepe became a popular meme character.

Pepe’s popularity is largely due to his ability to convey a wide range of emotions. The character has been used to depict everything from sadness to anger to joy. However, Pepe’s popularity has also led to controversy. The character has been associated with various hate groups, and in 2016, the Anti-Defamation League declared Pepe a hate symbol.

Responses:

“I think it’s unfortunate that such a beloved character has been co-opted by hate groups. Pepe used to be a symbol of humor and fun, but now it’s associated with hate and bigotry.” – Emily, 28

“I still love Pepe, even though it’s been associated with hate. For me, Pepe will always be a symbol of internet culture and humor.” – John, 31

Wojak

Wojak, also known as Feels Guy, is another popular meme cartoon character. The character is often used to depict various emotions, such as sadness, disappointment, and frustration. Wojak was created by an anonymous user on the 4chan message board in 2010.

Wojak’s popularity has only grown in recent years, and the character has been used in countless memes. However, Wojak’s popularity has also led to controversy. The character has been associated with the alt-right movement, and some people have criticized its use in certain contexts.

Responses:

“I think Wojak is a great character that can convey a wide range of emotions. However, I don’t like it when it’s used in a hateful context.” – Sarah, 24

“I love Wojak and think it’s a great way to express various emotions. I don’t think it should be associated with any political movement.” – Mark, 30

Spongebob Squarepants

Spongebob Squarepants is a popular cartoon character that has been a meme staple for years. The character was created by animator and marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg in 1999. Spongebob is known for his optimistic outlook and infectious laugh.

Over the years, Spongebob has been used in countless memes. The character’s versatility has made it a popular choice for internet users who want to express various emotions and reactions.

Responses:

“I love Spongebob and think it’s hilarious how it’s used in memes. It’s a great way to express various emotions.” – Tom, 28

“I don’t really understand why Spongebob is such a popular meme character. I guess I’m just not into internet culture.” – Jane, 25

Conclusion

Meme cartoon characters have become an integral part of internet culture. These characters are often used to convey various emotions and reactions, and their popularity only continues to grow. While some characters have been associated with controversy, they remain a beloved part of internet culture. Whether you love them or hate them, meme cartoon characters are here to stay.
