Sleeping Dogs Memes: The Trend That's Still Going Strong In 2023

Funniest and Best Dog Memes in the World All Time Ever and Stuff
Funniest and Best Dog Memes in the World All Time Ever and Stuff from dogperday.com

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a decade since the release of the open-world action game Sleeping Dogs, but the memes based on the game are still going strong. In fact, they’ve only grown in popularity over the years, with new and creative takes on the game’s characters and story popping up all the time.

The Origins of Sleeping Dogs Memes

Sleeping Dogs was released in 2012 to critical acclaim, with its engaging story, unique setting, and satisfying combat system earning it a loyal fanbase. But it wasn’t until a few years later that the game’s memes really started taking off.

One of the earliest and most popular Sleeping Dogs memes was based on the game’s protagonist, Wei Shen. In the game, Wei is an undercover cop who infiltrates a criminal organization in Hong Kong, and the meme took this idea to the extreme by portraying Wei as a master of disguise who could blend in anywhere.

Other early Sleeping Dogs memes focused on the game’s supporting characters, such as Jackie Ma, a loyal friend of Wei’s who often finds himself in over his head, or Inspector Pendrew, Wei’s superior officer who is more concerned with his own career than justice.

The Rise of Sleeping Dogs Memes

As time went on, Sleeping Dogs memes continued to grow in popularity, with new memes based on the game’s story, characters, and even its gameplay mechanics popping up all the time. Some of the most popular memes to emerge in recent years include:

“I Will Take You There”

This meme is based on a scene from the game where Wei is tasked with driving a group of thugs to a remote location. One of the thugs, who speaks in broken English, repeatedly says “I will take you there” in a thick accent, leading to countless remixes and parodies.

Wei Shen’s Fashion Sense

Wei’s wardrobe in Sleeping Dogs is a thing of beauty, with a wide variety of stylish outfits to choose from. Memes based on Wei’s fashion sense often play up the absurdity of his wardrobe choices, or imagine what other outfits he might wear.

“I’m a Cop, You Idiot!”

In one memorable scene from the game, Wei is confronted by a group of thugs who accuse him of being a cop. Wei responds by shouting “I’m a cop, you idiot!” before proceeding to beat them all up. This scene has become a popular meme for its over-the-top action and Wei’s badass one-liner.

The Future of Sleeping Dogs Memes

As long as there are fans of Sleeping Dogs, there will be memes based on the game. But what do the people who know the game best think of all this? We reached out to a few Sleeping Dogs enthusiasts to get their take on the meme phenomenon.

“I think it’s great that the game has inspired so much creativity and humor,” says Alex, a longtime fan of the game. “It shows that people really connect with the characters and the world of Sleeping Dogs.”

Others, however, worry that the memes might be overshadowing the actual game. “I love the memes, but sometimes I feel like people forget that there’s a great game behind them,” says Sarah, another Sleeping Dogs fan. “I hope that people who discover the game through the memes will give it a chance and see how great it really is.”

Regardless of what the future holds, one thing is for sure: Sleeping Dogs memes will continue to entertain and delight fans for years to come.

It’s been a few years since the Chinese eating dogs meme started circulating on the internet, but its impact is still being felt today. If you’re not familiar with the meme, it’s a derogatory image or video that depicts Chinese people eating dogs. This offensive and harmful meme has been debunked multiple times, but it continues to be shared on social media and other online platforms.

The Origin of the Meme

The Chinese eating dogs meme originated from a highly controversial practice in certain parts of China, Korea, and other Asian countries where dogs are consumed as meat. While this practice is not widespread, it has been used by some individuals to perpetuate negative stereotypes about Asian cultures and people.

The meme gained popularity in the early 2000s, and it was often used in the context of criticizing China’s treatment of animals. However, it quickly turned into a racist and xenophobic attack on Asian people, particularly Chinese people.

The Impact of the Meme

The Chinese eating dogs meme has had a significant impact on how Asian people are perceived in the Western world. It has perpetuated harmful stereotypes that portray Asian people as “uncivilized” and “barbaric.” This type of racism can have real-world consequences, from discrimination in the workplace to hate crimes on the streets.

Many people have spoken out against the Chinese eating dogs meme, including animal welfare organizations and Asian activists. However, the meme continues to be shared on social media and other online platforms, often without any consequences for those who perpetuate it.

Responses from People Who Know It

Animal Welfare Organizations

Animal welfare organizations have been among the most vocal critics of the Chinese eating dogs meme. They argue that the meme is not only offensive but also distracts from the real issue of animal welfare. Many of these organizations work to promote animal welfare in Asian countries where dogs are consumed as meat.

One such organization is the Humane Society International (HSI), which has been working to end the dog meat trade in Asia for many years. In response to the meme, HSI released a statement condemning it as “racist, xenophobic, and harmful.”

Asian Activists

Asian activists have also been speaking out against the Chinese eating dogs meme. They argue that the meme perpetuates harmful stereotypes about Asian people and contributes to the rise of hate crimes against Asians.

One such activist is Suey Park, who started the hashtag #NotYourAsianSidekick in response to the meme. Park argues that the meme is just one example of the many ways in which Asian people are marginalized and stereotyped in Western culture.

Chinese People

Chinese people have also been speaking out against the Chinese eating dogs meme. Many argue that the meme is not only racist but also misrepresents their culture and traditions.

One such Chinese person is Dr. Shi Yan, a prominent animal rights activist in China. Dr. Yan argues that the meme is based on outdated and inaccurate stereotypes about Chinese people and their relationship with animals.

Conclusion

The Chinese eating dogs meme is a harmful and offensive image that perpetuates negative stereotypes about Asian people. While many organizations and individuals have spoken out against the meme, it continues to be shared online. It is important for all of us to do our part in combating racism and xenophobia, both online and in our daily lives.
