Obama’s Memes: A Brief History
Obama first showed his love of memes during his presidency. In 2013, he participated in a popular internet trend known as “Between Two Ferns,” a comedic interview show hosted by Zach Galifianakis. During the interview, Obama made several jokes and references to popular memes, showing that he was up-to-date with internet culture.
After leaving office in 2017, Obama continued to show his love of memes. In 2019, he shared a meme on Twitter that showed two photos of himself, one where he was leaving the White House and another where he was on vacation. The caption read, “Obama’s America” and “Trump’s America” respectively, referencing the stark contrast between his presidency and the current political climate.
What Does Obama’s Love of Memes Say About His Personality?
Obama’s love of memes shows that he is relatable and has a good sense of humor. It also shows that he is in touch with modern culture and is not afraid to embrace it. This is a welcome change from the stereotypical image of a politician who is out of touch with the younger generation.
Many people have praised Obama for his humorous side, with some even saying that it makes them miss his presidency even more. “It’s great to see a former president who can make us laugh and feel good,” said Sarah Johnson, a 26-year-old from California. “It makes me miss the days when Obama was in charge.”
Obama’s Memes and Politics
While Obama’s love of memes may seem like a lighthearted topic, it has also been used to make political statements. In 2020, Obama shared a meme on Twitter that showed a photo of himself and former Vice President Joe Biden. The caption read, “Barack, why did you go with Biden?” to which Obama responded, “I had no idea I’d be running against someone like Donald Trump.” The meme was seen as a subtle endorsement of Biden’s presidential campaign.
