Back in the early days of the internet, memes were a relatively new concept. But one particular meme ended up becoming an instant classic, and that was the Crash Bandicoot Woah meme. This meme was based on an iconic sound effect from the original Crash Bandicoot game, and it quickly became a staple in internet culture.
The Origins of the Woah Meme
The woah sound effect first appeared in the original Crash Bandicoot game, which was released for the PlayStation in 1996. The sound was used whenever Crash would jump or spin, and it quickly became a recognizable part of the game.
But it wasn’t until years later that the woah sound effect became a meme. The meme originated on YouTube in 2007, when a user named “MyGreenGiant” uploaded a video titled “Crash Bandicoot Woah! for 10 hours.” The video consisted of nothing but the woah sound effect on a loop for 10 hours straight.
The video quickly went viral, and the woah meme was born. People started using the sound effect in all sorts of contexts, from remixes to memes to prank videos.
The Legacy of the Woah Meme
Over the years, the woah meme has become a beloved part of internet culture. It’s been referenced in countless videos, memes, and even TV shows and movies.
One of the most notable references to the woah meme was in the 2019 film “Ready Player One.” In one scene, the character Aech references the meme by saying “Crash Bandicoot, am I right?” before doing the woah gesture.
The woah meme has also inspired countless remixes and mashups. One of the most popular remixes is the “Crash Bandicoot Woah But It’s Megalovania” video, which combines the woah sound effect with the music from the video game Undertale.
The Future of the Woah Meme
Despite being over a decade old, the woah meme shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, it’s still being used in new and creative ways.
One recent example is the “Crash Bandicoot Woah But It’s Sung By Spongebob” video, which features the woah sound effect being sung by the character Spongebob Squarepants.
Another recent trend is the “Woah Challenge,” where people try to do the woah gesture in creative and unexpected ways. The challenge has become popular on TikTok and other social media platforms.
Responses from Fans
When asked about the woah meme, longtime Crash Bandicoot fan John said, “I love the woah meme. It’s such a fun and silly part of internet culture, and it’s amazing to see how it’s evolved over the years.”
Another fan, Sarah, said, “The woah meme is iconic. I remember watching the 10-hour video back in high school and thinking it was the funniest thing ever. It’s crazy to think that it’s still popular all these years later.”
Overall, the woah meme is a testament to the enduring power of internet culture. It may have started as a simple sound effect in a video game, but it’s become so much more than that over the years.
