It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years since the Area 51 San Andreas meme took the internet by storm. In 2019, a Facebook event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” went viral, with millions of people pledging to “see them aliens” by raiding the top-secret military base in Nevada. The event was ultimately cancelled, but it spawned countless memes, including the famous “Area 51 San Andreas” image.

What is the Area 51 San Andreas Meme?

The Area 51 San Andreas meme is a photoshopped image that shows a group of characters from the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas storming the gates of Area 51. The image quickly became a viral sensation, with people sharing it on social media and using it to create their own memes.

At the time, the meme was seen as a humorous commentary on the absurdity of the Storm Area 51 event. It was a way for people to participate in the joke without actually risking their lives by attempting to storm a heavily guarded military base.

Why Did the Meme Go Viral?

The Area 51 San Andreas meme went viral for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it was a clever and funny image that tapped into the cultural zeitgeist. The Storm Area 51 event was one of the biggest viral moments of 2019, and the meme played off of that event in a clever way.

Secondly, the meme was extremely shareable. It was easy to understand and didn’t require any context to appreciate. Anyone who saw the image could instantly understand the joke and share it with their friends.

The Legacy of the Area 51 San Andreas Meme

But the meme also had a more serious impact. It helped to shine a light on the absurdity of the Storm Area 51 event and the dangerous consequences of spreading misinformation online. The meme was a way for people to participate in the joke without actually putting themselves in harm’s way, and it served as a reminder that not everything on the internet should be taken at face value.
