The year 2023 marked the continuing popularity of the game Among Us. This multiplayer game, developed by InnerSloth, gained its popularity because of its simple yet exciting gameplay that revolves around deceit, strategy, and teamwork. However, the game’s popularity goes beyond its gameplay, as it also became a source of hilarious memes and GIFs that spread across the internet like wildfire.

What is Among Us?

Before we dive into the funny memes and GIFs, let’s first understand the game’s mechanics. Among Us is a multiplayer game that can be played by four to ten players. Each player is assigned a role, either a crewmate or an impostor. The crewmates’ goal is to finish all tasks on the spaceship and identify and vote off the impostors. On the other hand, the impostors’ goal is to kill off the crewmates and sabotage the spaceship without being caught.

The game’s simplicity and the suspense it brings make it an ideal game for friends and family to play together. It’s no wonder why it became a sensation when the pandemic hit, and people needed a way to connect and have fun virtually.

The Hilarious Memes and GIFs

Since its release, Among Us has become a breeding ground for memes and GIFs. The game’s mechanics and the players’ behavior create funny situations that are perfect for internet humor. From crewmates failing to complete tasks to impostors getting caught in the act, the memes and GIFs never fail to bring laughter to anyone who sees them.

One of the most popular memes is the “Emergency Meeting” meme. In the game, players can call an emergency meeting to discuss and vote off an impostor or someone they suspect is an impostor. The meme shows a character shouting “Emergency Meeting” with a ridiculous reason for calling it, such as “I saw someone vent, but I forgot who.” The meme perfectly captures the absurdity of the game and how it can make people accuse each other for no apparent reason.

Another popular meme is the “Sus” meme. “Sus” is short for “suspicious,” and players use it to refer to someone they think is an impostor. The meme shows a character with the word “Sus” written on their forehead, implying that they are the impostor. This meme perfectly captures the paranoia that the game brings, where players start doubting each other and accusing everyone of being the impostor.

Responses from People Who Know It

Among Us’s popularity and the memes and GIFs it spawned have not gone unnoticed. Fans of the game and internet humorists alike have shared their thoughts on the matter.

Twitter user @pewdiepie tweeted, “Among Us memes are the best thing to come out of 2023.” The tweet garnered thousands of likes and retweets, showing how much people love the game’s humor.

Reddit user u/funnyguy123 shared a hilarious meme about the game, saying, “I’m not the impostor. I’m just an incompetent crewmate.” The meme shows a character failing to complete a simple task, perfectly capturing the frustration of playing the game as a crewmate.

Conclusion

Among Us’s popularity proves that simplicity can sometimes be the key to success. The game’s mechanics and the players’ behavior create funny situations that are perfect for internet humor. The memes and GIFs that it spawned have become a part of internet culture and will continue to bring laughter to anyone who sees them. Who knows what other funny memes and GIFs the game will inspire in the future, but one thing is for sure: Among Us will continue to be a source of fun and laughter for years to come.
