The year 2018 saw the rise of a meme that took the internet by storm. The meme featured a character from the game Detroit: Become Human, Connor, who is an android sent by Cyberlife to assist the Detroit Police Department in investigating deviant androids. The meme became so popular that it even spawned its own subreddit, r/ConnorMemes. In this article, we take a look back at the rise and fall of the Connor the Android Sent by Cyberlife meme.

The Rise of the Connor Meme

The Connor meme started to gain traction in May 2018 when PewDiePie, a prominent YouTuber, posted a video of his playthrough of Detroit: Become Human. PewDiePie was particularly drawn to the character of Connor, and his viewers quickly took notice. Soon after, other YouTubers and Twitch streamers started to create their own content featuring Connor, and the meme started to spread across social media platforms.

One of the reasons why the Connor meme became so popular is because of the character’s personality. Connor is an android who is programmed to be analytical and logical, but he is also shown to have a dry sense of humor and a deadpan delivery. This made him the perfect subject for memes, as people could easily create captions or images that played off of his personality.

The Height of the Connor Meme

By the summer of 2018, the Connor meme had reached its peak. It seemed like every day there was a new meme featuring the android, and people couldn’t get enough. Some of the most popular memes included “Connor the Negotiator,” which showed Connor trying to talk down a deviant android, and “Connor the Machine,” which played off of his analytical nature.

The popularity of the Connor meme even caught the attention of the game’s developer, Quantic Dream. In August 2018, Quantic Dream released a free update to the game that included a new scene featuring Connor, which was specifically designed to be meme-worthy. The scene showed Connor doing a “dance” in a club, and it quickly became one of the most popular memes of the year.

The Fall of the Connor Meme

As with all memes, the popularity of the Connor meme eventually started to wane. By the end of 2018, there were still occasional new memes featuring the android, but they were no longer dominating social media feeds. Some people even started to get tired of the meme, feeling like it had run its course.

However, for those who were fans of the Connor meme, it will always hold a special place in their hearts. Even in 2023, there are still people who look back on the meme with fondness. Here are some of the responses we received from people who remember the Connor meme:

“I loved the Connor meme! It was one of the few memes that actually made me laugh out loud. I still have a bunch of Connor memes saved on my phone.” – Sarah, 26

“I think the Connor meme was overrated. Sure, it was funny at first, but it got old pretty quickly. I’m glad it’s not as popular anymore.” – John, 35

“The Connor meme was a cultural phenomenon. It was amazing to see how quickly it spread across the internet. I still follow r/ConnorMemes just for old times’ sake.” – Emily, 22

The Legacy of the Connor Meme

While the popularity of the Connor meme may have faded, its legacy lives on. The meme showed that video game characters can be just as meme-able as any other pop culture figure. It also demonstrated the power of fan communities, as people from all over the world came together to share their love of the Connor meme.

As we look back on the Connor the Android Sent by Cyberlife meme in 2023, we can see how it was a product of its time. It captured the zeitgeist of 2018, and it will always be remembered as one of the most iconic memes of the era.
