What Are Witch Broom Memes?
Witch broom memes are a type of internet meme that typically feature a photo or video of someone riding a broomstick, accompanied by humorous or sarcastic text. The broomstick rider is usually dressed in a witch costume, although sometimes other costumes or outfits are used as well. The text often plays off the idea of flying on a broomstick, making jokes about everything from traffic to relationships to politics.
At their core, witch broom memes are a blend of two popular internet trends: memes and witchcraft. Memes have been a staple of internet culture for years, providing a way for people to express themselves through humor and pop culture references. Meanwhile, witchcraft has been experiencing a resurgence in recent years, with young people particularly drawn to its empowering and subversive elements. Witch broom memes bring these two trends together in a way that’s funny, relatable, and a little bit magical.
Where Did Witch Broom Memes Come From?
As with most internet memes, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where witch broom memes originated. However, they seem to have really taken off in the fall of 2022, around the time of Halloween. This makes sense, given the association between witches and broomsticks in popular culture. It’s also possible that the popularity of witch broom memes is related to the ongoing trend of “witchtok” – a subculture of young people on TikTok who are interested in witchcraft and share tips, rituals, and aesthetic content related to the practice.
Regardless of their origins, witch broom memes have quickly spread across social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit. They’ve even spawned their own dedicated subreddits and Instagram accounts, where users can share and discuss their favorite examples of the genre.
Why Are Witch Broom Memes So Popular?
There are a few reasons why witch broom memes have struck a chord with so many people. For one thing, they’re funny. Who doesn’t love a good joke about flying on a broomstick? But beyond that, witch broom memes tap into a deeper cultural fascination with witchcraft and the supernatural. In a world that can often feel mundane and oppressive, the idea of being able to take to the skies on a broomstick is a powerful symbol of freedom and possibility.
Additionally, witch broom memes are often used as a way to comment on current events or social issues. For example, a meme that shows a witch flying over a traffic jam with the caption “When you’re late for work but you have a broomstick” is both funny and relatable. But it also speaks to the frustration many people feel with the daily grind of commuting and the limitations of modern transportation.
How Can You Create Your Own Witch Broom Memes?
If you’re feeling inspired to create your own witch broom memes, there are a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost, you’ll need a good image of someone (or something) riding a broomstick. This could be a photo you take yourself, a still from a movie or TV show, or even a piece of artwork you find online. Once you have your image, think about what kind of text you want to add. Does it play off a current event or trend? Does it make a pun or a clever observation? Does it express a feeling or sentiment that you think others will relate to?
When creating your witch broom meme, it’s important to remember that humor is key. The best memes are the ones that make people laugh or smile, even if they’re commenting on serious topics. That being said, it’s also important to be mindful of the impact your meme might have on others. Avoid making offensive or hurtful jokes, and be aware of the cultural and historical context of the broomstick and witchcraft imagery you’re using.
