The Origin of the Meme
The “when you say LMAO too many times” meme first emerged on Twitter in 2017. It typically features a screenshot of a text message conversation where one person has typed “LMAO” multiple times in a row. The other person responds with a humorous or sarcastic comment, indicating that they’re annoyed with the excessive use of the acronym.
Over time, the meme has evolved to include other variations, such as “when you say LOL too many times” or “when you use too many crying laughing emojis.” Regardless of the specific phrasing, the meme always pokes fun at the idea of someone overusing a particular online expression.
Why the Meme is Still Relevant
Even though the “when you say LMAO too many times” meme is several years old at this point, it still resonates with many people. That’s because the internet is still a place where people use a lot of shorthand and abbreviations to communicate, and it’s easy to fall into the trap of using certain expressions too frequently.
Additionally, the meme is relatable to anyone who has ever been annoyed by someone else’s online habits. Whether it’s a friend who always uses too many emojis or a family member who sends too many chain emails, almost everyone can identify with the frustration of feeling like someone else is being too “extra” online.
