Back in 2021, when Urban Meyer was announced as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, fans of the Michigan Wolverines football team were quick to remind him of his past. Meyer, who had previously coached at Ohio State, had a long history of intense rivalry with Michigan. And so, the internet was flooded with memes and jokes about Meyer’s move to Jacksonville. Here, we take a look back at some of the most popular Urban Meyer Michigan memes.

The “Welcome to Michigan” Meme
One of the most popular memes featured a photoshopped image of Meyer wearing a Michigan Wolverines hat. The caption read, “Welcome to Michigan, Coach Meyer.” The meme played on the idea that Meyer had betrayed his Ohio State roots by joining their biggest rival.
Response from Michigan Fans
“This is hilarious! I love the idea of Meyer having to wear the maize and blue. It’s like he’s been forced to join the enemy,” said Sarah, a Michigan alum and avid football fan.
Response from Ohio State Fans
“This is just salt in the wound. Meyer is a Buckeye through and through, and no amount of memes can change that,” said Mark, an Ohio State fan.
The “Urban Who?” Meme
Another popular meme featured a photo of a Michigan football player looking confused. The caption read, “Who is Urban Meyer?” The meme played on the idea that Michigan fans didn’t care about Meyer’s past success at Ohio State.
Response from Michigan Fans
“This one is great. It’s like we’re saying, ‘We don’t care who you are, Meyer. You’re just another coach to us’,” said Dave, a Michigan fan.
Response from Ohio State Fans
“This one is just disrespectful. Meyer is a legend in Columbus, and Michigan fans can’t even acknowledge that,” said Emily, an Ohio State alum.
The “Meyer’s Playbook” Meme
One of the more creative memes featured a fake image of Meyer’s playbook. The playbook was filled with plays that all referenced Michigan. For example, one play was called “The Harbaugh Special” and involved trickery and deception.
Response from Michigan Fans
“This is hilarious. I love the idea of Meyer obsessing over Michigan so much that he creates an entire playbook dedicated to beating us,” said Mike, a Michigan fan.
Response from Ohio State Fans
“This one is just ridiculous. Meyer is a great coach who doesn’t need to rely on gimmicks to win. Ohio State will always be better than Michigan,” said Kevin, an Ohio State fan.
The “Meyer’s New Office” Meme
One of the more popular memes featured a photo of Meyer’s new office in Jacksonville. The photo was edited to include a large Michigan flag on the wall. The caption read, “Looks like Urban Meyer is getting comfortable in his new office.”
Response from Michigan Fans
“This is perfect. I love the idea of Meyer being surrounded by Michigan stuff all day. Maybe it will remind him of how much he hates us,” said Lisa, a Michigan fan.
Response from Ohio State Fans
“This is just petty. Meyer is a professional coach who doesn’t need to stoop to this level. Ohio State fans should be above this kind of childish behavior,” said Tom, an Ohio State alum.
Overall, the Urban Meyer Michigan memes were a viral trend that captured the attention of football fans across the country. While some fans found them hilarious and creative, others found them disrespectful and petty. Regardless of how you feel about the memes, there’s no denying that they were a memorable part of the 2023 football season.
