The Early Years
Lacrim’s real name is Karim Zenoud, and he grew up in the Paris suburb of Chevilly-Larue. As a teenager, he became involved in petty crime and spent several years in and out of jail. It was during one of his stints behind bars that he began to write and record music. In 2011, he released his first mixtape, ‘Liberte Provisoire,’ which quickly gained a following on the streets of Paris.
Over the next few years, Lacrim continued to release music and build his fanbase. He collaborated with other artists such as Mister You and Rim’K, and his music began to receive radio airplay. In 2014, he released his debut album, ‘Corleone,’ which was a commercial and critical success. The album featured guest appearances from French rap heavyweights such as Booba and SCH, and cemented Lacrim’s place as one of the top artists in the genre.
The Music
Lacrim’s music is characterized by his gritty lyrics and intense delivery. He often raps about his experiences growing up in the suburbs of Paris, his time in prison, and his struggles with poverty and violence. His music is also heavily influenced by American gangsta rap, with many of his beats featuring dark, menacing production and heavy basslines.
Despite the violent subject matter of his music, Lacrim has also shown a more introspective side on some of his tracks. In songs like ‘On Fait Pas Ca’ and ‘Pardon Mama,’ he reflects on his past mistakes and the impact they have had on his life and family.
The Controversies
Like many rappers, Lacrim has not been immune to controversy. In 2015, he was arrested in Spain on drug trafficking charges and spent several months in jail awaiting trial. He was eventually released on bail and returned to France, where he continued to record music and tour.
Despite the charges against him, Lacrim has maintained his innocence and has continued to enjoy a loyal fanbase. However, the incident did tarnish his reputation somewhat, and some critics have accused him of glorifying drug use and violence in his music.
The Legacy
As Lacrim’s career continues to evolve, his influence on the French rap scene is becoming increasingly apparent. Many of the younger artists coming up today cite him as a major inspiration, and his style has helped to shape the sound of modern French rap.
Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no denying the impact that Lacrim has had on French music. His intense, visceral style has resonated with audiences around the world, and his rise from the streets of Paris to the top of the charts is a testament to his talent and perseverance.

Responses from Critics
“Lacrim’s music is problematic because it glorifies violence and criminal behavior. It’s not a positive message to be sending to young people.”
“While I appreciate Lacrim’s talent as a rapper, I think he needs to be more responsible with the messages he’s putting out there. There’s already enough negativity in the world without adding to it.”

With his intense, visceral style and his unflinching honesty, he has captured the hearts and minds of audiences around the world.
