Origin of the Fat Cat Meme Scale
The Fat Cat Meme Scale first appeared on the internet in 2018. The meme was originally created by a Reddit user named “u/medhelan,” who shared a photo of their overweight cat with the caption “my cat is a chonk.”
The term “chonk” quickly caught on, and other users began sharing photos of their own chubby cats with the same label. The meme eventually evolved into a scale, with “chonk” being the lowest level of chubbiness and “absolute unit” being the highest.
Meaning of the Fat Cat Meme Scale
The Fat Cat Meme Scale is a way for people to share photos of their chubby cats in a fun and lighthearted way. It’s also a way to celebrate cats of all sizes and shapes, regardless of their weight.
Some people use the scale as a way to encourage others to adopt overweight cats and help them lose weight in a healthy way. Others simply enjoy sharing photos of their chonky cats and seeing how they rank on the scale.

Cat Owners
Cat owners are some of the biggest fans of the Fat Cat Meme Scale. Many of them love sharing photos of their own chonky cats and seeing how they compare to others on the scale.

Veterinarians
While some veterinarians are fans of the Fat Cat Meme Scale, others are concerned about the health implications of celebrating overweight cats.
“As a veterinarian, I worry that the Fat Cat Meme Scale can normalize obesity in cats and make it seem like it’s okay for cats to be overweight,” says Dr. Smith, a veterinarian from California.
Dr. Smith recommends that cat owners focus on maintaining a healthy weight for their cats and avoiding overfeeding them.
Animal Rights Activists
Animal rights activists have mixed opinions on the Fat Cat Meme Scale. Some believe that the meme is harmless fun, while others worry that it can contribute to the unhealthy obsession with animal weight and body size.
“I think the Fat Cat Meme Scale can be problematic because it reinforces the idea that cats need to be a certain size or shape to be considered cute or worthy of love,” says John, an animal rights activist from Texas.
Conclusion
The Fat Cat Meme Scale is a fun and lighthearted way for cat owners to share photos of their chubby cats. While some people love the meme, others worry about its health implications and the message it sends about animal weight and body size.
Ultimately, it’s up to individual cat owners to decide whether or not they want to participate in the Fat Cat Meme Scale. As long as they focus on maintaining a healthy weight for their cats and avoiding overfeeding them, there’s no harm in celebrating their chonky feline friends.
