The Origins of the To Be Continued Meme
The “to be continued” meme first gained traction in 2016, when a manga and anime series called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure featured a similar ending sequence. The series would show a cliffhanger moment, freeze the image, and display the words “to be continued” while the same saxophone riff played. Fans of the series began creating their own versions of the ending, and the meme was born.
Since then, the meme has taken on a life of its own. It’s been used in countless videos, images, and even advertisements. The sound effect has become synonymous with the idea of a cliffhanger, and has been used to comedic effect in a variety of contexts.
Creating Your Own To Be Continued Memes

First and foremost, you’ll need to find a suitable video or image to use as the basis for your meme. This can be anything from a clip of a cat jumping off a couch to a dramatic moment from a movie.
Once you have your video or image, you’ll need to edit it to include the “to be continued” text and the saxophone riff. There are a variety of video editing software options available, from free programs like iMovie to more advanced tools like Adobe Premiere Pro. Regardless of which software you use, the process will generally involve adding the text and sound effect to your video or image.
