The Origins of the Ed Edd n Eddy Book Meme
Like many memes, the Ed Edd n Eddy book meme started as a simple idea that snowballed into a viral sensation. The first known example of the meme appears to be a tweet from @aaronphilipxo on August 12, 2023, which featured an image of Ed holding a copy of Wuthering Heights with the caption “Why yes, I do enjoy a good Bronte novel.”
From there, the meme quickly caught on, with fans of the show creating their own versions featuring different characters and literary classics. The humor comes from the juxtaposition of the Eds, who are known for their simple-mindedness and love of jawbreakers, with the sophisticated language and themes of classic literature. It’s a perfect example of the “unexpected humor” that makes memes so appealing.
The Many Variations of the Ed Edd n Eddy Book Meme
One of the best things about the Ed Edd n Eddy book meme is how versatile it is. There are countless variations and interpretations, each one putting a unique spin on the idea. Some of the most popular versions include:
Shakespearean Eds
One of the most popular sub-genres of the Ed Edd n Eddy book meme is the Shakespearean Eds. Fans have taken famous quotes from Shakespeare’s plays and rewritten them in the style of the Eds, often adding hilarious misspellings and malapropisms. For example, here’s a version of Hamlet’s “To be or not to be” soliloquy:
“To jawbreaker, or not to jawbreaker, that is the questshun: Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous misadventures, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them?”
Eds as Classic Authors
Another popular variation of the meme is to cast the Eds as classic authors, complete with book covers and author bios. Some of the funniest examples include:
– Eddgar Allan Poe: “Nevermore shall I be without my trusty ruler and protractor!”
– Edith Wharton: “I may not have a jawbreaker, but I do have a heart full of longing.”
– Ernest Hemingway: “The jawbreaker was cold and hard, like the Spanish Civil War.”
Eds as Literary Characters
Finally, some fans have taken the meme in a different direction, casting the Eds as classic literary characters. For example, here’s a version featuring Ed as Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby:
“I hope she’ll be a fool – that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool who gives me jawbreakers.”
The Future of the Ed Edd n Eddy Book Meme
So what’s next for the Ed Edd n Eddy book meme? Will it continue to evolve and grow, or fade away into obscurity like so many memes before it? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: this hilarious new trend is here to stay, at least for the time being. As long as there are fans of the show with a love of literature and a sense of humor, the Ed Edd n Eddy book meme will continue to thrive.
