In 2020, the “pick on someone your own size” meme took the internet by storm. It was a simple concept: a picture of a small object or animal would be paired with the caption, “pick on someone your own size.” The meme was popularized by Twitter user @ltsBirdy and quickly spread across social media platforms.
At first, the meme was harmless fun. People would share pictures of their pets, toys, and even food with the caption, “pick on someone your own size.” But as with most internet trends, things quickly took a dark turn.

The Dark Side of the Meme
As the meme gained popularity, people began using it to bully others. Pictures of people who were overweight, disabled, or otherwise vulnerable were shared with the caption, “pick on someone your own size.” The meme became a way for bullies to justify their behavior and a tool for spreading hate.
People spoke out against the meme, arguing that it was harmful and insensitive. But for a while, it seemed like the “pick on someone your own size” meme was here to stay.
The Backlash
Eventually, the backlash against the meme grew too strong to ignore. People began calling out those who shared it, and social media platforms started cracking down on hate speech.
Twitter suspended accounts that used the meme to bully others, and Facebook removed posts that violated their community guidelines. Slowly but surely, the “pick on someone your own size” meme began to fade away.
The Legacy of the Meme
While the “pick on someone your own size” meme may be gone, its legacy lives on. It serves as a reminder of the power of the internet to spread both joy and hate. It also highlights the importance of using social media responsibly and with empathy for others.
But perhaps the most lasting legacy of the meme is the response from people who know what it’s like to be bullied. They spoke out against the meme and stood up for those who were being targeted. Their voices may not have been able to stop the meme completely, but they helped to create a more compassionate and understanding online community.
Final Thoughts
The “pick on someone your own size” meme may have had a short life span, but its impact was significant. It showed us that the internet can be a powerful force for good or evil, depending on how we use it. It also reminded us that we all have a responsibility to treat others with kindness and respect, both on and offline.
So the next time you’re tempted to share a meme or post online, take a moment to think about the impact it could have. Will it bring joy and laughter to others, or will it spread hate and hurt? The choice is yours.
