The Origins of the Brokeback Mountain Meme Blank
The Brokeback Mountain meme blank is derived from a scene in the film where the two main characters, Ennis Del Mar (played by the late Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), are standing on a mountain overlooking a valley. In the scene, Ennis says, “I wish I knew how to quit you,” expressing his conflicted feelings about his relationship with Jack. This line has become a cultural touchstone, and has been parodied and referenced in countless ways over the years.
However, the Brokeback Mountain meme blank specifically refers to a still image from the film that has been used as a template for creating memes. The image shows Ennis and Jack standing side-by-side, looking out at the valley. The image has been altered to remove the dialogue bubble, leaving a blank space where text can be added. This has allowed people to create their own captions and jokes using the image.
The Rise of the Brokeback Mountain Meme Blank
The Brokeback Mountain meme blank first gained traction on social media in the mid-2010s. Initially, it was used primarily for humorous purposes. People would add captions to the image that made fun of various pop culture phenomena, or made jokes about current events.
However, as the political climate in the United States became increasingly heated, the Brokeback Mountain meme blank began to take on a more serious tone. People began using it to comment on issues like immigration, gun control, and LGBTQ rights. The image of Ennis and Jack looking out at the valley became a symbol for people’s frustrations with the state of the country.
The Fall of the Brokeback Mountain Meme Blank
As with any meme, the popularity of the Brokeback Mountain meme blank eventually waned. By the late 2010s, the image was no longer as ubiquitous on social media as it had been a few years earlier. However, it still had its devoted fans, and people continued to create new memes using the image.
In 2022, the Brokeback Mountain meme blank suffered a blow when it was revealed that the image had been created without permission from the filmmakers or the actors. The creators of the meme had simply taken a screenshot from the film and altered it to create the blank space. This led to a backlash from some fans of the film, who felt that the meme was disrespectful to the original work.
