The Origin of the Pocahontas Meme
The Pocahontas meme originated from Trump’s derogatory remarks about Senator Elizabeth Warren. During his campaign, Trump repeatedly referred to Warren as “Pocahontas,” a reference to her claim of Native American ancestry. Trump used the nickname to mock Warren, who he claimed was using her alleged Native American heritage to gain an unfair advantage in her career.
Warren responded to Trump’s attacks by releasing a DNA test that confirmed she had Native American ancestry, but the move backfired. The test showed that her Native American heritage was minimal, and her critics accused her of trying to use it for political gain. Trump continued to use the nickname, and it became one of his most popular memes.
