The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) has been a cultural phenomenon since the release of J.R.R. Tolkien’s trilogy of books in the 1950s. The subsequent film adaptations by Peter Jackson brought the story to a broader audience, and the franchise has only continued to grow in popularity ever since. One of the most unexpected side-effects of this popularity has been the rise of LOTR memes on the internet, particularly on the website Cheezburger.
