The Origins of the Spongebob Birthday Cake Meme
The Spongebob birthday cake meme first appeared in 2014, when a woman named Rachel posted a photo of her daughter’s Spongebob Squarepants birthday cake on Reddit. The cake was a disaster – the Spongebob on top was lopsided, his arms were too long, and his eyes were different sizes. Rachel’s post quickly went viral, and before she knew it, her daughter’s cake was all over the Internet.
As people started sharing the photo of the cake, they began adding their own captions and jokes. Some people joked that the cake looked like it had been made by someone who had never seen Spongebob before, while others compared it to a drunk person trying to draw Spongebob from memory. The Spongebob birthday cake meme was born, and it quickly became one of the most popular memes on the Internet.
Why the Spongebob Birthday Cake Meme is Still So Popular Today
So why is the Spongebob birthday cake meme still so popular nearly a decade after it first appeared? There are a few reasons. For one thing, the meme is just plain funny. The cake is so hilariously bad that it’s impossible not to laugh at it. But beyond that, the Spongebob birthday cake meme has become a part of Internet culture. It’s one of those memes that everyone knows, and that people reference all the time.
But perhaps the biggest reason why the Spongebob birthday cake meme is still so popular is that it’s relatable.
