It’s been a wild ride for the New York Mets in 2022. From unexpected injuries to incredible comebacks, Mets fans have had plenty to talk about this season. But perhaps one of the most entertaining parts of being a Mets fan in 2022 was the abundance of memes that came out of the season. Here, we’ll take a look back at some of the best NY Mets memes of 2022.
Table of Contents
The Mr. Met Meme
One of the most iconic images of the Mets franchise is Mr. Met, the team’s lovable mascot. And in 2022, Mr. Met became the subject of a hilarious meme. The meme features a photo of Mr. Met with the caption “When you’re the only one left in the bullpen.” The meme perfectly captures the frustration that Mets fans felt when the team’s bullpen struggled in close games.
“The Mr. Met meme was definitely my favorite of the season,” says Mets fan and meme enthusiast, John. “It just perfectly summed up how we all felt watching the bullpen blow game after game.”
The Pete Alonso Home Run Derby Meme
In July of 2022, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso won his second consecutive Home Run Derby title. And of course, Mets fans couldn’t resist turning his impressive feat into a meme. The meme features a photo of Alonso with the caption “When you win the Home Run Derby two years in a row because no one else can hit at Coors Field.”
“I thought that meme was hilarious,” says Mets fan and meme creator, Sarah. “It was so true, Coors Field is definitely a hitter’s paradise.”
The Jacob deGrom Injury Meme
Unfortunately, one of the biggest stories of the Mets’ season was the injury struggles of star pitcher Jacob deGrom. But as Mets fans know, sometimes the best way to cope with disappointment is through humor. The Jacob deGrom injury meme features a photo of deGrom with the caption “When you’re the only pitcher in history to win the Cy Young and the IL MVP in the same season.”
“As a Mets fan, I love Jacob deGrom, but it was definitely frustrating to see him injured so often,” says Mets fan and meme lover, Mike. “The meme was a way to make light of the situation and keep our spirits up.”
The Francisco Lindor Contract Meme
One of the biggest off-season acquisitions for the Mets in 2022 was shortstop Francisco Lindor. And of course, with a big contract comes big expectations. The Francisco Lindor contract meme features a photo of Lindor with the caption “When you sign a 10-year, $341 million contract and start the season hitting .200.”
“I think we were all excited when the Mets signed Lindor, but it was definitely frustrating to see him struggle at the plate early on,” says Mets fan and meme enthusiast, Rachel. “The meme was a way to poke fun at the situation and remind ourselves not to take things too seriously.”
Final Thoughts
Overall, the 2022 Mets season was filled with ups and downs. But one thing that remained constant was the creativity and humor of Mets fans when it came to memes. Whether we were laughing at the team’s struggles or celebrating their successes, memes were a way for fans to come together and bond over our shared love of the Mets.
“I think memes are a really important part of being a sports fan in 2023,” says John. “They’re a way to connect with other fans and share in the collective experience of being a Mets fan. I can’t wait to see what kind of memes come out of the 2023 season!”
