Back in 2022, a controversial meme made its way around the internet, causing a stir among gun enthusiasts and Amazon fans alike. The meme, which featured an image of an Amazon package with the words “Amazon Suppressor – because sometimes you just need to keep it quiet,” sparked outrage among those who felt it trivialized the use of firearm suppressors. But what exactly is a suppressor, and why did this meme cause such a commotion? Let’s take a closer look.

What is a Suppressor?
A suppressor, also known as a silencer, is a device that attaches to the end of a firearm’s barrel and reduces the sound of the gun when it’s fired. Contrary to popular belief, suppressors don’t completely silence a gun – they simply make it quieter. This can be beneficial for a variety of reasons, such as reducing noise pollution for shooters who live near residential areas or improving communication during hunting trips.
However, suppressors are heavily regulated in the United States due to their association with criminal activity. In order to purchase a suppressor, individuals must undergo an extensive background check, pay a $200 tax stamp, and wait several months for approval.
The Amazon Suppressor Meme
The Amazon Suppressor meme, which first appeared on social media in early 2022, poked fun at the idea of purchasing a suppressor on Amazon – a platform known for its convenience and accessibility. The meme quickly went viral, with gun enthusiasts and Amazon fans alike sharing their thoughts on the controversial image.
Response from Gun Enthusiasts
Many gun enthusiasts were outraged by the Amazon Suppressor meme, arguing that it trivialized the use of suppressors and perpetuated harmful stereotypes about gun owners. Some even called for a boycott of Amazon, claiming that the company was promoting dangerous behavior.
One user on a popular gun forum wrote, “This is ridiculous. Suppressors are a serious piece of equipment that should be treated with respect, not turned into a joke by a company like Amazon. I won’t be using their platform to purchase anything in the future.”
Response from Amazon Fans
On the other hand, many Amazon fans found the meme to be humorous and harmless. Some even praised the company for its clever marketing tactics and ability to tap into current trends and memes.
A Reddit user commented, “I think this is hilarious. Amazon knows how to stay relevant and appeal to younger audiences. It’s just a meme – people need to lighten up.”
The Aftermath
The Amazon Suppressor meme sparked a heated debate online, with both sides firmly entrenched in their beliefs. However, in the end, it seems that the controversy had little effect on Amazon’s bottom line. The company continued to thrive as the world’s largest online retailer, with sales reaching record highs in 2023.

Whether you found the Amazon Suppressor meme to be funny or offensive, one thing is clear – it sparked an important conversation about the use of suppressors and the role of humor in the gun community.
