It’s 2023 and the world has been taken over by memes. From Instagram to Twitter, we can’t escape the constant barrage of viral content. But there’s one place where memes have truly taken over: the Mexican telenovela, Teresa.

For those unfamiliar with the show, Teresa is a dramatic television series that originally aired in 2010. It tells the story of a young woman from a poor neighborhood who uses her beauty and cunning to climb the social ladder. While the show was popular in its time, it has since gained a new following thanks to the internet’s love of memes.

The Birth of the Teresa Meme

The first Teresa meme appeared in 2016 and was a simple image of the show’s protagonist, Teresa, with the caption “yo soy muy mala” (I am very bad). The meme quickly caught on and became a staple on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram.

As the show gained popularity, so did the memes. Fans began creating their own content, using screenshots and video clips from the show to create hilarious and relatable memes. From Teresa’s dramatic facial expressions to her iconic catchphrases, there was no shortage of material to work with.

One Twitter user, @_angelicx, says, “I never thought I’d be able to connect with so many people over a telenovela from 2010, but here we are. The memes have made Teresa relevant again and I’m so grateful for that.”
