The internet has given birth to countless memes over the years, but few have been as persistent and widespread as the “Do Do Do Do Dododo” techno song. You’ve probably heard it before, even if you didn’t know what it was called. The tune is catchy, upbeat, and has been used in countless videos and memes across social media platforms. But where did it come from, and why has it become so ubiquitous? Let’s take a closer look.

Origins of the Meme

The “Do Do Do Do Dododo” techno song is actually a remix of a track called “Sandstorm” by Finnish DJ Darude. The original song was released in 1999 and became a hit in Europe and around the world. The remix that has become a meme was created by a YouTuber named Oli Chang in 2010, who added a catchy vocal sample to the instrumental track.

The sample comes from a song called “Better Off Alone” by Dutch artist Alice Deejay, which was also a hit in the late 90s and early 2000s. The “Do Do Do Do Dododo” part of the sample is a series of descending notes that have become instantly recognizable to millions of people around the world.

The Meme Spreads

After Oli Chang’s remix was uploaded to YouTube, it quickly gained popularity and was used in countless videos both on the platform and elsewhere on the internet. The song’s catchy beat and memorable sample made it perfect for use in memes and viral videos.

One of the earliest examples of the meme in action comes from a video called “The Evolution of Dance” by comedian Judson Laipply. In the video, Laipply performs a dance routine that spans decades of popular music, including a segment set to the “Do Do Do Do Dododo” techno song. The video went viral in 2006 and helped to popularize the song even further.

In the years since, the song has been used in countless other videos, memes, and remixes. It’s been featured in everything from cat videos to political parodies, and seems to show no signs of slowing down.

The Impact of the Meme

So why has the “Do Do Do Do Dododo” techno song become such a beloved meme? Part of the answer lies in its simplicity and catchiness. The tune is easy to remember and hum along to, which makes it perfect for use in videos and memes that rely on repetition and humor.

Another factor is the nostalgia factor. For many people who grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s, songs like “Sandstorm” and “Better Off Alone” evoke fond memories of a simpler time. The “Do Do Do Do Dododo” techno song remix taps into that nostalgia and adds a modern twist that makes it feel fresh and relevant.
