The History of the Rivalry

The Utah-BYU rivalry dates back to 1896, when the two schools first faced off in football. Since then, they have played each other nearly every year, with a few hiatuses due to conference realignments. The rivalry is so intense that it has its own name – the Holy War.

Over the years, the two schools have developed a deep-seated animosity towards each other.
