It’s been three years since the rise of the Thatcher meme in Rainbow Six Siege, and it’s safe to say that it has had its fair share of ups and downs. For those unfamiliar with the meme, it revolves around the operator Thatcher and his ability to disable electronic devices. The meme is often used in a humorous context, with players joking about Thatcher’s ability to ruin their opponents’ plans.

The Birth of the Thatcher Meme

The Thatcher meme first started to gain traction in early 2020, when a few players began to use it in their gameplay videos and social media posts. It quickly caught on, and soon the meme was everywhere. Players were making memes about Thatcher’s EMP grenades, his bald head, and even his accent.

The meme’s popularity reached its peak in the summer of 2020, when a professional Rainbow Six Siege player used the Thatcher meme in a post-match interview. The clip went viral, and soon everyone was talking about the meme. The player later admitted that he had no idea what the meme was about, but he thought it would be funny to use it in the interview.

The Thatcher Meme Goes Mainstream

As the Thatcher meme continued to gain popularity, it started to cross over into mainstream culture. People who had never played Rainbow Six Siege were using the meme, and it even appeared in a few TV shows and movies. Some people even started using the meme in their everyday conversations, much to the confusion of their friends and family.

The Thatcher meme even started to influence the way people played Rainbow Six Siege. Some players started to pick Thatcher more often, just so they could make jokes about him. Others started to use the meme as a way to taunt their opponents during matches.

The Fall of the Thatcher Meme

Despite its initial success, the Thatcher meme eventually started to lose steam. People began to tire of the same jokes being repeated over and over again, and many players started to see the meme as overused and unoriginal.

Some even started to see the meme as toxic, as it was often used to belittle and insult other players. This led to a backlash against the meme, with some players calling for it to be banned from Rainbow Six Siege communities.

Responses from the Community

Some players have defended the Thatcher meme, arguing that it’s all in good fun and that people shouldn’t take it too seriously. They point out that memes are a natural part of online gaming culture, and that trying to ban them is pointless.

Others have criticized the meme, saying that it’s become too toxic and that it’s time to move on. They argue that the meme is no longer funny, and that it’s starting to become a hindrance to the Rainbow Six Siege community.

The Future of the Thatcher Meme

So, what does the future hold for the Thatcher meme? It’s hard to say. Some players still use it regularly, while others have moved on to newer memes. It’s possible that the meme could make a comeback in the future, or it could fade away into obscurity.

One thing is for sure, though: the Thatcher meme will always be a part of Rainbow Six Siege history. Whether you loved it or hated it, it’s impossible to deny the impact that it had on the game and its community.
