It’s been almost a decade since the “white taxidermy animal meme” took the internet by storm. For those who may not remember, the meme featured photos of white taxidermy animals, often posed in humorous or absurd ways, and accompanied by witty captions. The trend was especially popular on social media platforms like Tumblr and Instagram, where users could easily share and repost the images.

At its peak, the white taxidermy animal meme was everywhere. You couldn’t scroll through your feed without seeing at least one photo of a stuffed polar bear wearing a party hat or a deer head mounted on a Segway. It was a lighthearted and irreverent trend that seemed to capture the internet’s collective sense of humor.

The Origins of the Meme

So, where did the white taxidermy animal meme come from? The answer is a bit murky, as many internet trends tend to be. Some credit the trend to a Tumblr user named “Taxiderpy,” who began posting photos of her own taxidermy creations in 2012. Others point to a Reddit thread from around the same time, where users shared photos of white taxidermy animals that they had found online.

Regardless of its origins, the meme quickly gained traction and spread like wildfire across social media. Part of its appeal was undoubtedly its absurdity. There was something undeniably hilarious about seeing a dead animal posed in human-like situations or wearing silly accessories.

The Backlash

As with most internet trends, the white taxidermy animal meme eventually faced a backlash. Critics began to argue that the trend was insensitive and disrespectful to animals, especially those that had been hunted and killed for sport. Others pointed out that the meme often perpetuated harmful stereotypes about trophy hunting and the commodification of nature.

As the backlash grew, many social media platforms began cracking down on the meme. Tumblr, for instance, banned posts that featured “violent or gory content” in 2018, which effectively put an end to the trend on that platform.

The Legacy of the Meme

So, what is the legacy of the white taxidermy animal meme? Some argue that it was simply a passing fad, a momentary blip on the internet’s radar. Others suggest that it played a more significant role in shaping the way we think about animals and our relationships with them.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it’s clear that the white taxidermy animal meme left an indelible mark on internet culture. It sparked countless imitators and spin-offs, from the “dank meme” to the “Wholesome Animal Memes” subreddit.

Responses from People Who Know It

From a Taxidermist:

“I think taxidermy animal memes are a double-edged sword. On the one hand, they bring attention to the art of taxidermy, which is something I’m passionate about. But on the other hand, they can be seen as making light of the practice, which is something that many taxidermists take very seriously.”

From an Animal Rights Activist:

“I find taxidermy animal memes to be deeply disturbing. These animals were killed and then stuffed and posed for human amusement. It’s a cruel and unnecessary practice that should be condemned, not celebrated.”

From an Internet Humorist:

“I love taxidermy animal memes! They’re so weird and unexpected, and they always make me laugh. I think they’re a great example of how the internet can take something strange and turn it into a phenomenon.”

Whether you find them hilarious, unsettling, or just plain weird, there’s no denying that they’ve become a major part of internet culture. And who knows?
