For decades, “Ince Memed Türküsü” has been a beloved and widely sung folk song in Turkey. Over the years, many different artists have performed the song, and countless people have grown up listening to it. But despite its popularity, there has long been a mystery surrounding the song’s origins: Who actually wrote the lyrics?

The Controversy

For years, there have been conflicting stories about who wrote the lyrics to “Ince Memed Türküsü.” Some have claimed that the song was written by a famous poet or musician, while others have argued that it was a traditional folk song with no known author.

One of the most widely circulated stories about the song’s origins is that it was written by the famous Turkish poet Nazım Hikmet. Hikmet was a prominent figure in Turkish literature and politics, and many of his poems and songs are still widely celebrated in Turkey today. However, there is no concrete evidence to support the claim that he wrote the lyrics to “Ince Memed Türküsü.”

Another theory is that the song was written by a man named İbrahim Çiftçi, who was a shepherd from the southeastern province of Adıyaman. According to this story, Çiftçi wrote the song while tending his flock and later taught it to his friends and neighbors. However, like the Hikmet theory, there is no concrete evidence to support this claim.
