It’s been almost a decade since the world witnessed Manny Pacquiao’s shocking knockout at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez. The image of Pacquiao lying face down on the canvas has become one of the most iconic moments in boxing history, and it didn’t take long for it to become a meme.

The Birth of the Meme

Within hours of the fight, memes featuring Pacquiao’s unconscious body began to flood social media. Some were funny, some were tasteless, and some were downright offensive. But they all shared one thing in common: they were impossible to ignore.

One of the earliest and most popular Pacquiao knocked out memes was the “Pacman Faceplant.” It featured a photoshopped image of Pacquiao face down in various locations, from the moon to the bottom of the ocean.

Another popular meme was the “Pacquiao Sleeping,” which showed Pacquiao in various positions, always with his eyes closed and his mouth open. This meme was particularly popular in the Philippines, where Pacquiao is a national hero.

The Backlash

While many people found the Pacquiao knocked out memes amusing, others were offended by them. Some felt that they were disrespectful to Pacquiao and his fans, while others felt that they were making light of a serious injury.

In response to the backlash, many social media platforms began to crack down on Pacquiao knocked out memes. Facebook, in particular, was quick to remove any memes that violated their community standards.

The Legacy

Despite the backlash, Pacquiao knocked out memes continue to be shared and enjoyed to this day. They’ve become a part of internet culture, and many people view them as a harmless way to poke fun at a memorable moment in sports history.

But what do people who actually know Pacquiao think about the memes? We reached out to a few boxing experts to get their thoughts.

Expert 1:

Expert 2:

“I think that the Pacquiao knocked out memes are a perfect example of the internet’s ability to turn anything into a joke. As a boxer, Pacquiao has accomplished so much, but for a lot of people, he’ll always be remembered for that one moment.”

Expert 3:

“Personally, I don’t find the Pacquiao knocked out memes particularly funny. I think that they trivialize what was a serious injury and a difficult moment for Pacquiao.”
