In the world of Mad Men, Peggy Olson was a trailblazer. From her humble beginnings as Don Draper’s secretary to becoming one of the most successful copywriters in the industry, Peggy’s journey was nothing short of inspiring. But it wasn’t just her professional accomplishments that made her a fan favorite. Peggy’s wit, intelligence, and relatability made her a character that people couldn’t help but root for. And now, in 2023, Peggy Olson has become so much more than just a fictional character. She’s a meme.

The Birth of a Meme

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when Peggy Olson memes started to gain momentum, but it’s safe to say that they’ve been around for a few years now. It probably started with a few clever Twitter users crafting relatable jokes using screenshots of Peggy’s facial expressions or quotes from the show. But it wasn’t until these memes started to go viral that Peggy Olson truly became a pop culture icon.

One of the most popular Peggy Olson memes is the “Not Great, Bob” meme. In the show, Peggy’s colleague Bob Benson asks her how she’s doing and she responds with a terse “Not great, Bob.” The internet took that moment and turned it into a catchphrase that people use to describe any situation that’s less than ideal.

Another popular Peggy Olson meme is the “That’s What the Money Is For” meme. In the show, Peggy is asked to stay late at work and says “That’s what the money is for.” The internet has repurposed that line to be used in any situation where someone is doing something they don’t really want to do, but are getting paid to do it.

The Appeal of Peggy Olson Memes

So why have Peggy Olson memes become so popular? For one, Mad Men is a beloved show that still has a passionate fan base. But beyond that, Peggy Olson is a character that people can relate to. She’s a woman trying to make it in a male-dominated industry, dealing with sexism and discrimination along the way. Her struggles and triumphs feel real, even if they’re set in the 1960s.

Additionally, Peggy Olson memes are often used to express frustration or annoyance in a humorous way. We’ve all had moments where we just want to say “Not great, Bob” and move on with our day. Using a Peggy Olson meme can be a way to commiserate with others who are feeling the same way.

The Future of Peggy Olson Memes

Will Peggy Olson memes continue to be popular in the years to come? It’s hard to say. Memes come and go, and what’s popular today might not be popular tomorrow. But for now, Peggy Olson memes are still going strong. And as long as people continue to find her relatable and funny, it’s likely that we’ll keep seeing memes featuring our favorite copywriter.
