Back in 2021, a Kenyan governor named John Lonyangapuo became an internet sensation thanks to a hilarious video of him making fun of a journalist for asking a seemingly obvious question. The video quickly went viral, and in no time, Lonyangapuo memes were all over social media, particularly Twitter. The memes featured the governor’s witty one-liners and hilarious expressions, and they quickly became a favorite among Kenyan netizens.

Fast forward to 2023, and the Lonyangapuo meme craze seems to have died down. So what happened? In this article, we’ll take a look back at the rise and fall of Lonyangapuo memes and explore why they were so popular in the first place.

The Birth of Lonyangapuo Memes

The first Lonyangapuo meme was born on July 2, 2021, when a video of the governor went viral. In the clip, a journalist asked Lonyangapuo whether he was planning to run for president in the upcoming elections. The governor’s response was nothing short of hilarious. He asked the journalist whether he had ever heard of a governor running for president, and when the journalist said yes, Lonyangapuo responded with, “Kama hujui, sasa ujue” (If you didn’t know, now you know).

The video quickly went viral, and Kenyans on Twitter were quick to turn the governor’s witty one-liner into a meme. Memes featuring Lonyangapuo’s face and his hilarious one-liners flooded social media, and soon, the entire country was talking about the governor’s newfound internet fame.

The Popularity of Lonyangapuo Memes

So why were Lonyangapuo memes so popular? For one, they were hilarious. The governor’s witty one-liners and funny expressions were the perfect recipe for a meme, and Kenyans on Twitter couldn’t get enough of them.

But beyond that, Lonyangapuo memes also became a symbol of Kenyan resilience and humor. Despite the country’s many challenges, Kenyans were able to find humor in a seemingly trivial thing like a viral video of a governor. Lonyangapuo memes became a way for Kenyans to come together and laugh at themselves, and in a way, they helped to lift the country’s spirits during a difficult time.

The Legacy of Lonyangapuo Memes

While Lonyangapuo memes may have faded out of the limelight, their legacy lives on. They showed us that laughter can be a powerful tool for bringing people together and lifting spirits. They also showed us that even in the face of adversity, Kenyans will always find a way to laugh and make the best of a bad situation.
