Back in 2018, a meme featuring Bill Cosby and Jello went viral on the internet. The meme showed an image of Bill Cosby holding a bowl of Jello and the caption read, “Jello pudding pops, it’s the taste you can hear.” The meme was a reference to the many commercials Cosby had done for Jello in the past. At the time, the meme was seen as harmless and funny, but little did we know that it would later become a symbol of controversy.

What Happened?

Bill Cosby, once a beloved comedian and actor, was accused of sexual assault by multiple women. The allegations dated back to the 1960s and continued through the 2000s. In 2018, Cosby was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004. He was sentenced to three to ten years in prison. The Cosby Jello meme suddenly became a reminder of the accusations against him and the trauma suffered by his victims.

The Response

Many people took to social media to express their outrage over the Cosby Jello meme. They saw it as insensitive and offensive to the victims of sexual assault. Some even called for the meme to be taken down from the internet. Others defended the meme, arguing that it was created before the allegations against Cosby were made public and that it was not intended to harm anyone.

The Fall

Despite the controversy, the Cosby Jello meme continued to circulate on the internet, but its popularity began to wane. As more and more people became aware of the allegations against Cosby, they began to distance themselves from anything associated with him. The meme became a symbol of a darker time, and people no longer found it funny. Eventually, the meme disappeared from the internet altogether.

The Lessons Learned

The Cosby Jello meme serves as a cautionary tale about the power of the internet and the importance of being mindful of the content we create and share. What may seem harmless and funny at the time can quickly become offensive and hurtful in the future. The meme also highlights the need to listen to and believe victims of sexual assault. We must hold those who commit sexual assault accountable for their actions and stand in solidarity with those who have been harmed.
