Remember back in the early 2020s when NFL bandwagon memes were all the rage on social media? If you were a football fan during that time, it was hard to escape the onslaught of memes poking fun at fans who jumped on the bandwagon of winning teams. But as the years went by, the trend slowly died out. In this article, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane and explore the rise and fall of NFL bandwagon memes.

The Birth of NFL Bandwagon Memes

The concept of bandwagon fans is nothing new in sports. Fans who only support winning teams and jump on the bandwagon when a team is doing well have been around for decades. But the rise of social media in the early 2010s gave birth to a new form of fan shaming – the bandwagon meme.

The first NFL bandwagon memes started popping up on social media around 2012. These memes typically featured a photo of a fan wearing a jersey of a popular team (such as the Patriots or Cowboys) with text that read something like, “Oh, you’re a fan of the Patriots? Name three players on the team.” The memes were meant to shame fans who only supported winning teams and had little knowledge of the sport.

The memes quickly gained popularity and spawned countless variations. Some memes targeted specific fan bases, while others were more general. The rise of NFL bandwagon memes coincided with the rise of social media influencers, many of whom used the memes to gain followers and engagement.

The Height of the Craze

By 2015, NFL bandwagon memes were everywhere. Fans were creating and sharing memes on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Memes featuring Tom Brady, Jerry Jones, and other NFL personalities became particularly popular. The memes were so prevalent that even mainstream media outlets started to take notice.

Some fans loved the bandwagon memes, seeing them as a way to weed out fair-weather fans. Others felt that the memes were mean-spirited and unnecessary. Regardless of how people felt about the memes, they were impossible to ignore.

The Decline of NFL Bandwagon Memes

As with any trend, the popularity of NFL bandwagon memes eventually began to wane. By 2018, the memes had largely disappeared from social media. Some fans speculated that the decline was due to the fact that the memes had become too repetitive and predictable. Others felt that the memes had run their course and that it was time to move on to something new.

Despite the decline in popularity, there are still some die-hard fans who continue to create and share NFL bandwagon memes. However, these fans are now in the minority, and the trend is unlikely to ever reach the heights it did in the early 2010s.

The Legacy of NFL Bandwagon Memes

So, what is the legacy of NFL bandwagon memes? For some fans, the memes were a fun way to poke fun at fair-weather fans. For others, the memes were mean-spirited and unnecessary. Regardless of how people feel about the memes, they did leave a mark on the NFL fan community.

Some fans believe that the rise of NFL bandwagon memes helped to weed out fair-weather fans and create a more knowledgeable fan base. Others feel that the memes had little impact on the fan community and were simply a passing trend.
