If you were online in 2017, you probably came across the Raindrops Drop Top meme. It originated from the song “Bad and Boujee” by Migos, specifically the line “Raindrop, drop top.” The meme was everywhere, with people creating their own versions using the phrase in various contexts. However, by 2023, the meme has all but disappeared. Let’s take a look back at its rise and fall.

The Birth of the Meme

The Raindrops Drop Top meme first gained traction in late 2016 and early 2017. It started off as a simple joke, with people using the phrase in humorous ways. For example, one popular version was “Raindrop, drop top, I made my bed and now I can’t stop.” Another was “Raindrop, drop top, when you’re trying to study but your brain won’t hop hop.”

As more and more people started creating their own versions of the meme, it became a cultural phenomenon. It was referenced in TV shows, used in political commentary, and even made its way into mainstream music. The phrase “Raindrop, drop top” had become synonymous with internet humor.

The Height of the Meme

By early 2017, the Raindrops Drop Top meme was at its peak. It seemed like every day there was a new version of the meme popping up on social media. People were even creating merchandise with the phrase on it, including t-shirts and coffee mugs.

However, as with all memes, its popularity began to wane. By the end of 2017, the Raindrops Drop Top meme had all but disappeared from the internet.

What Happened?

So, what caused the downfall of the Raindrops Drop Top meme? Some people argue that it simply ran its course, as all memes eventually do. Others point to the fact that the meme was so overused that it lost its humor.

There’s also the possibility that the rise of newer, trendier memes pushed Raindrops Drop Top out of the spotlight. Memes like the “distracted boyfriend” and “yodeling kid” became more popular, leaving Raindrops Drop Top in the dust.

The Legacy of the Meme

Despite its disappearance from the internet, the Raindrops Drop Top meme still holds a special place in internet culture. It’s a reminder of a simpler time, when a simple phrase could bring people together and make them laugh.

Some people even argue that Raindrops Drop Top paved the way for other popular memes that followed. It showed that a catchy phrase or idea could become a cultural phenomenon if it was shared enough times.
