In 2016, the world was introduced to Rubi Ibarra, a young girl from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, whose father’s invitation to her quinceañera (15th birthday party) went viral. The video, which showed an open invitation to anyone who wanted to attend the celebration, quickly became a meme that spread throughout social media platforms. The event ended up becoming a massive party, with thousands of people showing up to celebrate with Rubi. Five years later, we take a look back at the memes that made Rubi’s quinceañera a viral sensation.

The Invitation Video

The invitation video that started it all was posted on Facebook by Rubi’s father, Crescencio Ibarra. In the video, Crescencio invites “everyone” to Rubi’s quinceañera, which was set to take place on December 26, 2016. He also announced that there would be a horse race with a prize of 10,000 pesos (about $500) and a live band. The video quickly went viral, with many people making jokes and memes about the open invitation.

Response from the Public

As the video gained more attention, people started to express their opinions about the event. Some were in favor of the open invitation, while others criticized the idea of inviting strangers to a private celebration. Many people also made jokes and memes about the situation, with some even going as far as creating fake RSVPs to the event.

Despite the mixed reactions, thousands of people showed up to the quinceañera, causing traffic jams and chaos in the small town where the event was held. The event was covered by national and international media, making Rubi an overnight sensation.

The Memes

The viral video of Rubi’s quinceañera spawned countless memes, with people using the footage to make jokes and parody videos. Some of the most popular memes included:

The “Rubi’s Dad” Meme

One of the most popular memes was the “Rubi’s Dad” meme, which featured a still image of Crescencio from the invitation video with various captions. The captions ranged from funny to bizarre, with many people using the meme to make fun of the situation.

The “I’m Going to Rubi’s Quinceañera” Meme

Another popular meme was the “I’m Going to Rubi’s Quinceañera” meme, which featured a Photoshopped image of various celebrities and fictional characters attending the event. The meme was popular on Twitter and Instagram, with many people using it to show their excitement for the event.

The “Fake RSVP” Meme

Some people took the joke a step further by creating fake RSVPs to the event. The fake RSVPs ranged from funny to outrageous, with some people claiming to be celebrities or even aliens. While the fake RSVPs were obviously not real, they added to the overall humor and absurdity of the situation.

The Aftermath

After the event, Rubi and her family became overnight celebrities. They were invited to various TV shows and events, and Rubi was even offered a modeling contract. However, the fame was short-lived, and the family eventually returned to their normal lives.

Despite the criticism and controversy surrounding the event, Rubi’s quinceañera will always be remembered as a viral phenomenon that captured the attention of the world. The memes that were created from the event will continue to circulate on social media, reminding us of the power of the internet to turn even the most mundane events into viral sensations.
