As we approach Mexico’s Independence Day, it’s hard not to think about the memes that once flooded our social media feeds on this day. One particular trend that took the internet by storm was the “memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre.” It’s been a few years since the peak of this trend, but the impact it had on the Mexican online community is still felt to this day. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what these memes were all about, how they became so popular, and what people had to say about them.

What Were the Memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre?

In case you missed it, the “memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre” were a series of memes that poked fun at former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto’s Independence Day speech. The memes typically featured an image of Peña Nieto with a humorous caption that made fun of something he said during his speech. For example, one popular meme featured Peña Nieto saying “¡Viva México!” followed by a caption that read “El mismo México que nos robaron.” (The same Mexico they stole from us.)

How Did They Become So Popular?

The memes started to gain traction after Peña Nieto’s speech was widely criticized for being out of touch with the Mexican people. Many felt that he was disconnected from the issues facing ordinary Mexicans and that his speech was tone-deaf. The “memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre” provided an outlet for people to express their frustration and disappointment with the president’s speech in a humorous way. As more and more people shared the memes on social media, they quickly went viral. Within hours, the internet was flooded with “memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre” and they became one of the top trending topics on Twitter in Mexico.

What Did People Have to Say About Them?

The reaction to the memes was mixed. Some people found them hilarious and appreciated the opportunity to make fun of the president. Others felt that they were disrespectful and that they detracted from the seriousness of the occasion. One Twitter user wrote, “I can’t stop laughing at these ‘memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre,’ but at the same time, I feel bad for laughing. It’s our Independence Day, after all.” Another user commented, “I don’t think it’s appropriate to make fun of the president on such an important day. We should be celebrating our independence, not tearing down our leaders.”

What’s the Legacy of the Memes?

While the “memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre” may have been a passing trend, they had a lasting impact on the way people use social media to express their opinions and frustrations. They showed that humor can be a powerful tool for social commentary and that even the most serious issues can be approached in a lighthearted way. In the years since the memes first appeared, there have been countless other viral trends that have used humor to address political and social issues. The “memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre” may have been just a blip on the radar, but they paved the way for other forms of online activism and helped to shape the way we engage with politics and social issues online.

Conclusion

While the “memes de Peña 15 de Septiembre” may have been controversial, there’s no denying that they had an impact on the Mexican online community. They provided a way for people to express their opinions and frustrations in a humorous way and showed that social media can be a powerful tool for social commentary. As we approach Mexico’s Independence Day once again, it’s worth remembering the role that these memes played in shaping the way we engage with our country’s politics and social issues.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a decade since Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, and Enrique Peña Nieto, the former President of Mexico, were the subject of countless memes. The two world leaders had a contentious relationship, to say the least, and their interactions often resulted in some of the funniest memes the internet has ever seen. Today, we’re taking a look back at some of the most memorable memes featuring Donald and Peña Nieto.

The Beginning of the Memes

The memes featuring Donald and Peña Nieto first started gaining traction in 2016, when Trump was running for President of the United States. At the time, he famously promised to build a wall along the US-Mexico border and make Mexico pay for it. Peña Nieto, understandably, was not a fan of this idea and publicly denounced it.

That’s when the memes started. People began creating images and videos that showed Trump and Peña Nieto in a variety of hilarious scenarios, from wrestling matches to rap battles. The memes quickly went viral and became a staple of internet culture.

The Memes Get Political

As the 2016 US Presidential election heated up, the memes featuring Donald and Peña Nieto became more political in nature. Many of them focused on the wall that Trump had promised to build along the US-Mexico border. Some of the most popular memes featured Peña Nieto sending Trump a bill for the wall or building a wall around Trump instead.

However, not all of the memes were focused solely on politics. Some of them were just downright silly. One meme showed Peña Nieto stealing Trump’s hairpiece, while another featured Trump trying to teach Peña Nieto how to do the “dab” dance move.

The Fallout

Despite the humor that the memes brought to the internet, the relationship between Donald Trump and Enrique Peña Nieto remained tense. In January of 2017, just days after Trump’s inauguration, the two leaders had a phone call that reportedly did not go well. The call was supposed to be a friendly conversation, but it ended with Peña Nieto cancelling a planned meeting with Trump.

The fallout between the two leaders didn’t stop the memes, however. If anything, it only fueled them further. People continued to create hilarious images and videos featuring Trump and Peña Nieto, and they continued to go viral.

The Legacy of the Memes

Today, the memes featuring Donald Trump and Enrique Peña Nieto are still remembered fondly by many internet users. They serve as a reminder of a time when politics was a little bit lighter and a little bit funnier. They also serve as a testament to the power of internet culture and the ability of people to find humor in even the most tense situations.

Some people even credit the memes with helping to bring attention to important political issues. For example, the memes featuring the wall that Trump promised to build along the US-Mexico border helped to spark a larger conversation about immigration and border security.
