It’s no secret that social media is a breeding ground for viral trends and memes. In 2023, a new trend has taken the internet by storm: “9 PM is the new midnight.” This phrase has become a popular meme, with people using it to express their exhaustion and desire for an early bedtime.

The Origins of the Meme

The “9 PM is the new midnight” meme originated on Twitter in early 2023. The first tweet to use the phrase was from a user named @SleepySamantha, who wrote: “Why stay up until midnight when you can go to bed at 9 pm? #9pmisthenewmidnight.”

From there, the meme quickly spread across social media platforms, with people using it in various contexts. Some used it to express their excitement about getting a good night’s sleep, while others used it to complain about their busy schedules.

Why the Meme Resonates

The “9 PM is the new midnight” meme has struck a chord with many people because it speaks to the growing importance of self-care and the need for rest in a fast-paced world. With so many people working long hours and struggling to balance their personal and professional lives, the idea of going to bed early has become increasingly appealing.

Furthermore, the meme plays into the larger cultural trend of “JOMO” or the joy of missing out. Instead of feeling like they’re missing out on something by going to bed early, people are embracing the idea of prioritizing their own well-being over social events or other activities.
