The Rise of Food Memes
Food memes have been around for a while, but they’ve really exploded in popularity in recent years. From the “This is Fine” dog drinking coffee to the “Distracted Boyfriend” looking at a burger, food has become a common theme in internet humor. In particular, Chinese food has been a popular subject for memes.
One reason for this is the prevalence of Chinese takeout in Western countries. Many people grew up eating Chinese food as a treat or for special occasions, and it holds a special place in their hearts (and stomachs). Memes that reference Chinese food tap into this nostalgia and evoke a sense of comfort and familiarity.
Another reason for the popularity of Chinese food memes is the sheer variety of dishes available. From General Tso’s chicken to lo mein to dumplings, Chinese cuisine offers something for everyone. This diversity means that there are a lot of different ways to make jokes or references to Chinese food.
The Best Chinese Food Memes
So what are some of the best Chinese food memes out there? Here are a few of our favorites:
Chopsticks
The classic “two chopsticks” meme is a simple but effective way to communicate excitement or anticipation. The image shows two chopsticks holding a piece of food, with the caption “Me waiting for my Chinese food to arrive.” It’s a relatable sentiment for anyone who’s ever eagerly awaited a delivery of their favorite takeout.
General Tso’s Chicken
General Tso’s chicken is one of the most popular Chinese dishes in the United States, and it’s also the subject of several memes. One image shows a piece of the crispy chicken with the caption “This is where I peak in life.” Another shows a cartoon General Tso exclaiming “I didn’t even make this dish!” A third features the chicken alongside the caption “I don’t always eat Chinese food, but when I do, I prefer General Tso’s.”
Dim Sum
Dim sum is a type of Chinese meal that involves small plates of food served on carts or trays. It’s a communal dining experience that’s popular in many parts of the world, and it’s also the subject of some great memes. One image shows a group of people gathered around a dim sum cart with the caption “When the squad decides to do dim sum.” Another features a person holding a steaming basket of dumplings with the caption “When you finally get your hands on the good dim sum.”
