The Birth of Thanos Memes
It all started with the release of Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. Thanos was the main villain of the film, and his quest to collect all six Infinity Stones to achieve his goal of wiping out half of all life in the universe was the driving force of the plot. However, it was Thanos’ sheer power and intimidating presence that captured the attention of audiences and inspired the first wave of memes.
One of the most memorable memes from Infinity War was the “Thanos Did Nothing Wrong” meme. The meme was based on a subreddit with the same name, where users would post memes and comments in support of Thanos’ quest to balance the universe. The subreddit gained a massive following, and even Josh Brolin, the actor who played Thanos, got in on the fun by posting a video on Instagram in character as Thanos, thanking the subreddit for their support.
The Snap Heard Around the World
Avengers: Endgame, the epic conclusion to the Infinity Saga, brought us one of the most iconic moments in movie history: the snap. Thanos used the power of the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of all life in the universe, and the aftermath of the snap became the basis for countless memes.
One of the most popular memes was the “I Don’t Feel So Good” meme, which was based on Spider-Man’s heartbreaking death after the snap. The meme featured various characters disintegrating into dust, with the caption “I don’t feel so good.” The meme was so popular that it even inspired a fan-made short film.
The Legacy of Thanos Memes
Even after the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, Thanos memes continue to thrive. The character has become a symbol of power and dominance, and his lines and actions in the films have inspired countless memes.
In fact, the popularity of Thanos memes has even caught the attention of Marvel themselves. In 2020, Marvel released a series of official Thanos memes on their social media accounts, including one that featured Thanos wearing a mask and the caption “I hope they remember you.” The memes were a hit with fans, and it’s clear that Marvel understands the power of memes in connecting with their audience.
