But why has this particular moment in Carey’s career resonated so strongly with audiences?

The Origins of the Meme
The infamous clip comes from a promotional video that Carey filmed for her 2008 album, “E=MC²”. In the video, she attempts to demonstrate the album’s theme of “cooking up some heat” by cooking a turkey in a microwave. However, she quickly realizes that the bird is still frozen solid, and delivers one of her most memorable lines: “I don’t know if it’s going to work, but we’re going to try.”
The clip was initially mocked by some fans and critics, who saw it as evidence of Carey’s diva behavior and detachment from reality. However, others found the clip endearing and relatable, and appreciated Carey’s willingness to laugh at herself.
The Memes Take Over
Over time, the clip took on a life of its own as internet users began remixing the footage and adding their own captions and music. Some of the most popular variations include a version set to the tune of the “Imperial March” from “Star Wars”, and a version in which Carey’s voice is replaced with the sound of a kazoo.
The meme has also inspired countless parodies and tributes, including a Thanksgiving-themed sketch on “Saturday Night Live”, and a video in which Carey herself revisits the moment and attempts to cook a turkey again (this time with more success).
The Legacy of the Meme
So why has this particular moment in Carey’s career endured for so long? Some argue that it speaks to the enduring power of the internet and its ability to turn even the most mundane moments into viral sensations. Others see it as a testament to Carey’s enduring popularity and cultural relevance.
Whatever the reason, the “Mariah Carey defrosting meme” shows no signs of melting away anytime soon. It continues to inspire new remixes, parodies, and responses, and has become a beloved part of internet culture.
