Back in the early 2020s, the internet was flooded with memes about former President Donald Trump. From his infamous hair to his tweets, there was no shortage of material for meme-makers to work with. However, as time passed and the political landscape shifted, many of these memes have been lost to the depths of the internet. In this article, we’ll take a look back at some of the best “lost” Trump history memes.
Table of Contents
The “Covfefe” Incident
One of the most memorable moments of Trump’s presidency was the infamous “covfefe” tweet. In the early hours of May 31, 2017, Trump tweeted, “Despite the constant negative press covfefe,” leaving many people scratching their heads. The tweet remained up for several hours before being deleted, but not before it had been screenshotted and turned into countless memes.
“I remember seeing so many different variations of the ‘covfefe’ meme,” said Sarah Johnson, a social media expert. “There were memes with the word ‘covfefe’ photoshopped onto everything from street signs to movie posters.”
The “Two Scoops” Controversy
In May 2017, a Time magazine article revealed that Trump was served two scoops of ice cream with his dessert, while everyone else at the table only got one. This led to a flurry of memes poking fun at Trump’s perceived entitlement.
“The ‘two scoops’ meme was particularly popular on Twitter,” said Johnson. “People were sharing pictures of ice cream cones with captions like, ‘Trump’s favorite flavor: narcissism’.”
The “Sharpiegate” Debacle
In September 2019, Trump made headlines when he used a Sharpie to alter a map showing the projected path of Hurricane Dorian. The altered map appeared to show the hurricane potentially hitting Alabama, which Trump had claimed in a tweet. The incident sparked a wave of memes, with many people mocking Trump’s apparent lack of geography knowledge.
“I remember seeing a lot of memes that were like, ‘It’s okay, Trump, we all failed geography at some point,'” said Johnson.
The “Tiny Hands” Insult
One of the most enduring memes from Trump’s presidency was the “tiny hands” insult. This originated from a 2016 Republican primary debate, in which Senator Marco Rubio implied that Trump had small hands. The insult stuck, and Trump was frequently mocked for it throughout his presidency.
“The ‘tiny hands’ meme was everywhere,” said Johnson. “There were memes with pictures of baby hands, or with Trump’s face photoshopped onto a T-Rex.”
What Happened to These Memes?
So why have so many of these memes been lost to the internet? According to Johnson, it’s partly due to changing attitudes towards Trump.
“During his presidency, there was a lot of anger and frustration directed towards Trump, and memes were a way for people to express that,” she said. “But as time has passed and the political climate has shifted, people’s attitudes towards Trump have changed. Some people might not find those memes as funny or relevant anymore.”
However, Johnson also pointed out that the internet is constantly evolving, and it’s easy for memes to get lost in the shuffle.
“There are so many memes being created every day, and it can be hard for any one meme to stay relevant for very long,” she said. “It’s possible that some of these ‘lost’ Trump memes will resurface in the future, but for now, they’re just a part of internet history.”
